Here is what Barrios had to say heading into his September 19 confronto:
On his recent training camp with Virgil Hunter in California
“Agora, we are finishing up the final days to training camp. All the sparring is complete and I’m 100% healthy going into this fight. My weight is good and Virgil and I have been working harmoniously since he became my lead trainer a few fights back. This will be our fourth fight together and I’m learning a lot, especially with my jab. The improvement will be evident when I step into the ring on fight night.
On facing Naim Nelson in his hometown
In this sport, sometimes you have to go into someone’s backyard, and battle them on their home turf. I know he’ll have a lot of his fans in attendance, but that has no effect on me and my game plan. My goal is to go into this fight, set the pace from the opening bell and come out victorious. No final da noite, everyone in the building will have respect for me.
On fighting in the main event on FS1 and FOX Deportes
It’s great to be fighting on FS1 and FOX Deportes once again, especially in the main event. The exposure I get from fighting on a national stage like this is great for my career. I’m just grateful to my team and everyone involved who put this fight together. I always shine on FS1 and Fox Deportes, and this fight is not going to be any different. I’m ready to take my career to the next level.
On fighting at super lightweight for the fourth time in his career
The move to 140 pounds has be a tremendous blessing to my career. I feel really strong and I can see myself fighting at this weight class for a few more years. My body is filling out just fine and my power is coming up with me.

Ronald Gavril: 166 ¾ Libras

J'Leon Amor: 168 ¼ Libras

Abraham Han: 167 ½ Libras

Caleb Planta: 167 ¼ Libras

Andrew Hernandez: 166 ¼ Libras

Citações Finais:

DAVID BENAVIDEZ:

“I’m a little surprised the title shot came this early. My dad told me to be ready and if the opportunity came, I need be ready to show up.

"[Gavril] thinks I’m a kid, Eu sei isso. Eu sou 20 anos, but I’m going to let him make the mistakes and let him come forward, then I’m going to take over.

“He’s never faced someone like me. I’ll let him think what he wants to think. I know what I can do. This is the biggest fight of my life and I have to take advantage.

“Leaving Phoenix was probably one of the best things I’ve ever done, especially for my boxing career.

“I can’t keep my mind away from boxing and I have to stay sharp because the fights are getting harder and harder.

“The last few fights have been tough and I can’t go in there just thinking about the knockout. I have to take them apart piece by piece. My approach has changed. I’m not going in there just wailing away like Mike Tyson. I’m going to dissect them.

“I see that he’s a pressure fighter and has good body work. He only has one speed and doesn’t have any other gears. I’ve watched a lot of film on him and feel like he has some weaknesses that I can expose. I’m going to end this in a knockout! Eu estou pronto para ir 12 rounds, mas eu vou nocauteá-lo.

“I’ve dedicated myself the most I ever have for any fight this time. I had sparring partners exactly like Gavril.

“I feel comfortable at this weight, but I can see myself going up to 175 at some point, maybe three or four years from now.

“I know if I win I’m going to be the youngest super middleweight world champion ever. That’s just frosting on the cake.”

Ronald Gavril:

“Our camp was extended by two weeks because we were supposed to fight on Aug. 26. But the world title fight came up so we had to go for it.

“I’m going to make him fight. I’m a more experienced fighter and have a higher boxing IQ than my opponent.

“I’m not overlooking Benavidez. He’s a tough fighter and we know it. Meu treinador [Eddie Mustafa Muhammad] has been working with me on a game plan. I’m going to be ready for whatever he has to bring.

“It was a great camp and we had the best sparring partners, including Badou [Tomada] and Jose Uzcategui.

“I’ve watched video of Benavidez. He throws lots of combinations and quick hands. They say he’s a highlight reel, but he will be exposed na sexta-feira noite. "

J'LEON AMOR:

“I know I’ve had a year-long layoff, but I’ve always been in the gym just working on my mistakes and polishing my game. I’m past the prospect stage and now I’m a contender.

“He’s not as smart as me. Estou indo para fazer uma declaração. He’s going to try and bring the fight to me, but it doesn’t matter. I’ve had some bigger guys in sparring, meio-pesados.

“It’s easy to be comfortable, but I’ve learned from my mistakes. I’m blessed to have Floyd [Mayweather] in my life, but he won’t always be there. I have to be able to do some things for myself. Everyone knows Floyd has it all, but he still busts his ass and works hard.

“Theo Chambers is back training me now and I had to go back to Kronk Gin Detroit to let the dog come out. I started with him when I was 14 anos.

“I want guys like James DeGale, and the winner of Benavidez and Gavril. Por que não? I’m hungry for whatever. I’ll do whatever I have to do be world champion.

“Sometimes you need some time off and a layoff is good. I healed my mind and my body. We’ve worked on some things and now we are ready to put it on display. I’ve learned from my mistakes.

“Boxing just comes natural to me and I’m feeling really good about my chances Sexta-feira noite. "

ABRAHAM HAN:

“I wasn’t always focused on my career, but I’ve gotten it back and my sister [current IBF women’s Featherweight World Champion] Jennifer is a big reason for that. I had to figure some things out. She beat my butt all the way through high school. Guys would see me with black eyes and know that she would beat the crap out of me. It was kind of embarrassing when you get beat up by your sister.

“This is a big opportunity for me. I lost two split decisions [to Sergio Mora and Fernando Guerrero] and both could have gone either way. I had the only knockdowns in both fights, but I was on the ‘B’ side so you know how it’s going to go.

“El Paso is trying to become a fight town and we have a lot of good trainers, but we still have a ways to go.

“I injured my shoulder a few years ago and couldn’t use my right shoulder so I started fighting more southpaw. I’ve done a lot of mixed martial arts growing up, and it hasn’t been hard switching from that to boxing.

“J’Leon Love has one of the best teams in boxing in Mayweather Promotions. I have to throw punches in bunches.”

CALEB PLANT

“I’m just going to go in there calm and relaxed as I always do and make adjustments as I need to. I could tell you everything I plan to do, or what could happen, but this this is boxing and everyone knows how it works. It depends on what’s going on inside the ring, and I will make adjustments.

“My opponent does different things and is very durable and comes to fight. We know he moves well and can do different things and be the aggressor. He has different dimensions. We’re not overlooking him.

“This isn’t the first time it’s happened, e não será a última, having to face a different opponent than we trained for. At the end of the day it’s all about being able to make adjustments, in the ring and in life. I don’t expect anything less than an A-plus performance.

“I’m not taking this fight lightly. This is no joke. Boxing is life and death to me. It’s all I have and it’s been my whole entire life since I was nine years old. I don’t have anything else.”

ANDREW HERNANDEZ

“I’ve had about a week notice for this fight. Of course I’m going to say yes. I’m not going to run from any fighter or opportunity. Caleb is a tremendous prospect and they are talking about him fighting for a world title soon. So much opportunity can come from this.

"[Caleb] doesn’t have many weaknesses. He has good hand speed and pretty good power and very good defense. He’s the total package and I have my work cut out for me. But I’m very confident in myself and I hope I can take him into deep waters.

“Hopefully I will fight the best fight I can and pull off the upset.”

“I’ve had some upsets during my career. I’ve been doing this long enough and hopefully someday maybe I’ll fight for a world title and get a nice payday before it’s all said and done. I’m very hungry.”

LOS ANGELES (Setembro 5, 2017) – Three-division world champion Leo Santa Cruz e ex-desafiante título Chris Avalos spoke to media at the Conga Room at L.A. Live Tuesday ahead of their world title showdown Sábado, Outubro 14 que manchetes Premier Boxe dos Campeões em RAPOSA e FOX Sports de StubHub Center, em Carson, Califa.
Also in attendance Tuesday was four-time world champion Abner Mares, que assumeAndres Gutierrez as he looks to setup a rematch with Santa Cruz in early 2018.
Os ingressos para o evento ao vivo, which is promoted by Ringstar Promotions and TGB Promotions, custam $30, $50, $75, $100, $150, e $250 e já estão à venda. Para comprar bilhetes, visit AXS.com AQUI.
Here is what the participants had to say Tuesday:
LEO SANTA CRUZ
Hopefully I can come out victorious and then face all of the big names. I want to rematch Mares and Carl Frampton then unify the division. I’m going to be ready to face anyone.
Some fighters when they take long layoffs feel a little bit rusty. I wanted to get in there and test my body and see how I feel heading into the bigger fights in the future.
Chris Avalos is a tough fighter. Ele tem 20 knockouts so I’m not going to underestimate him. Up there in the ring anything can happen. I’m going to be smart, be patient and do what I have to do to win the fight.
I’ve known Avalos since the amateurs. I beat him the one time we fought but it was a really good, close fight. We went toe-to-toe. He definitely thought he had won the fight. They’ve wanted a rematch since the amateurs.
I’m very happy to be back fighting here in Southern California. I owe all of this to me team and all the fans who make this possible. I love fighting here and I’m going to give you a great show.
A lot of people think this will be easy for me, but I don’t see it that way. I’ve been in there with him so I know. I’ll never underestimate an opponent. Anyone who gets in that ring with me is dangerous.
Avalos has good power that I have to be prepared for. I’m really focused on beating him. We both like to come forward so I’m thinking it’s going to be a war.
If I can get the win, I’m going to rematch Abner Mares. It was a really close fight the first time and I think the fans will really enjoy the rematch, especially now that he’s working with Robert Garcia.
CHRIS AVALOS
I’m not a big talker but I’m ready for this battle. Vai ser uma luta boa. Esta vai ser uma guerra. I like going toe-to-toe and so does he.
I think fighting close to home is exciting, but it doesn’t matter where the fight is. I think there is certain motivation to do better. I have been working hard in this training camp for this fight.
My last world title fight I wasn’t really focused. I was running around with the wrong crowd. I am more focused. I stopped talking to everyone I used to. I am a new person. I am a new fighter. Seeing this opportunity in front of me is a blessing. Eu estou realmente animado para essa luta.
We did spar in the past and I’ve been wanting to fight him. We aren’t enemies by any means, but it has been forever that I have been waiting for this opportunity.
I have a lot of tactics on how to fight him strategy wise. It is going to be a good fight and I appreciate they gave me the opportunity.
We are going to see the best Chris Avalos. I am going to bring the best. It is going to be a fight to remember.
Abner Mares
Andres Gutierrez is a tough fighter and he’s only got one defeat. He’s no tune-up fight. He’s going to give me a good fight. I’m going to learn a lot and try to make the best of it and put on the best performance that I can.
Leo and I have two tough opponents in front of us. My opponent was ready to fight Carl Frampton and Richard even said that he thought Gutierrez was going to win that fight. I’ve been training hard for this fight because we all know that young fighters like Gutierrez are warriors.
Gutierrez is no easy test, but he doesn’t have the talent that I have. He doesn’t have the heart that I have. He doesn’t have the corner that I have. I’m going to come out victorious and give the fans a good fight.
I’m excited to be back fighting in Southern California to perform in front of my fans. I think that Robert Garcia brought the best out of me and we’re going to continue to shine on October 14.
Having the new relationship with Robert Garcia has really changed my career and given me a whole new outlook. It’s made me a better fighter. I’m more mature and I still feel fast and strong.
I’m excited to show-off a new Abner Mares. I say this before most of my fights but it’s really true. I’m always learning more and you will be able to see it in the ring when I defend my title.
I’ve been sparring a lot of young guys and it’s got me feeling great in the gym. I can still hang with the 18 and 19-year-olds coming out of the amateurs. So I’m feel rejuvenated heading into this fight.
Richard Schaefer, Presidente & CEO da Ringstar Sports
This is a great fight card on October the 14 de StubHub Center, em Carson, Califórnia. Los Angeles has clearly become the fight capital of the world. Not only do we have several world champions making Los Angeles their home, but we really have some of the best venues and the absolute best fight fans.
This is a great doubleheader. Double trouble I have been calling it. Two of the most recognized names in the sport. Two Mexican-American world champions defending their world titles. This is going to be a special night for fight fans.
This is amazing to have these two fights live on a major network like FOX, and also on FOX Deportes. The StubHub Center is nicknamed theWar Groundsand I really can’t remember a bad fight at the venue. It truly brings out the best of the fighters.

MIAMI, ESTÁ BEM. (Agosto 25, 2017) – Sergiy Derevyanchenko (11-0, 9 KOs) remained unbeaten as he stopped Tureano Johnson (20-2, 14 KOs) no 12th and final round of their middleweight world title eliminator that headlined a special Friday night edition of Premier Boxe dos Campeões TERÇA TOE-de-toe em FS1 e Boxe dos Campeões em FOX Sports
Derevyanchenko put himself in line for a world title shot with an impressive stoppage of the durable contender Johnson in their bout from Main Streetin front of historic Coleman Theater – em Miami, Oklahoma.
“Estou muito feliz com meu desempenho,” said Derevyanchenko. “I did exactly what we worked on in training and broke him down to get the knockout.
“Estou muito desapontado,” said Johnson. “But I give a lot of credit to Derevyanchenko and congratulate him on his performance hoje à noite.”
Johnson was aggressive from the start, positioning himself right in front of his opponent while trying to throw punches from orthodox and southpaw stances. Derevyanchenko was able to sustain the pressure and use a steady jab to create enough space to unload big power shots on Johnson.
The third round saw Derevyanchenko’s offense break through as he was able to land multiple punches to the head while Johnson could only try to cover up. After falling behind in the first half of the fight, Johnson upped the aggression in rounds six and seven and was able to have more success landing series of hooks through Derevyanchenko’s own offense.
Contudo, in round eight Derevyanchenko returned to relying on his jab and was once again able to create the space to land strong shots and got the best of multiple exchanges. Derevyanchenko continued to show off impressive combos until finally breaking down Johnson for good in the 12th round with a ferocious combination that included three clean left hooks to the head.
He was very tough and took a lot of punches,” said Derevyanchenko. “Maybe the fight could have been stopped earlier but I was always ready to go the distance.
Johnson was sent down and referee Gary Ritter immediately called a halt to the bout 40 seconds into the final round.
I’m ready to fight the winner of Golovkin vs. Canelo for the title,” said Derevyanchenko. “I think that Golovkin will win and I look forward to fighting him next.
The co-main event of the telecast saw once-beaten Hugo Centeno Jr. (26-1, 14 KOs) deliver a highlight reel knockout of previously undefeated Immanuel Aleem (17-1, 10 KOs) in the third round of their middleweight matchup.
Centeno Jr. looked to use his 6’1frame to hurt Aleem from a distance as he circled the ring and stayed on the outside until attacking with a combination. Aleem came out dedicated to throwing huge left hooks to the body and worked to stay on the inside against the taller opponent.
Aleem upped the aggression in the second and third rounds, but Centeno Jr. stayed calm and slowly began to time the charging Aleem. A Centeno uppercut in round two was the first shot that got the attention of Aleem, who was coming in to this bout off of a knockout victory over Ievgen Khytrov in a Fight of the Year candidate from January.
Late in the third round, Centeno Jr. landed a perfect left hook on the button just as Aleem tried to throw his own left hand and sent Aleem crashing to the canvas. Referee Gerald Ritter counted Aleem out as the fight was officially ended 2:27 into the round and Centeno walked away with a victory that will likely garner Knockout of the Year consideration.

LAS VEGAS (Agosto 22, 2017) – O ex-campeão do mundo Juan Carlos Payano (19-1, 9 KOs) scored an impressive decision victory over Alexis Santiago (24-5-1, 8 KOs) no evento principal dePremier Boxe dos Campeões TERÇA TOE-de-toe em FS1 e Boxe dos Campeõesem FOX Sports, Terça-feira night from Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas and presented by Mayweather Promotions.
Payano set the pace early, closing the distance with Santiago and delivering consistent flurries of punches. Santiago was unable to keep Payano from charging forward early and seemed focused on landing a big counter.
The fight was defined by its rough nature and constant fighting on the inside. This led to a cut above Payano’s left eye after round three, but his corner was able to manage it and the cut was never a problem.
I felt like I was winning every single round,” said Payano. “There were small moments on the inside that I gave away but I think I did the better work each round.
Santiago had moments in the fight and landed big right hands late in the fourth and fifth rounds that got Payano’s attention, but the former champion was able to throw back with high volume and regain control of the fight.
The strategy was to wear him down and then really try to walk him down and take him out,” said Payano. “Santiago was a little too tough for his own good so I kept some distance at times and controlled the fight.
I felt the long layoff when I got in there,” disse Santiago. “I was a little tight and I loaded up too much instead of using my speed.
Even when Santiago was able to corner Payano, the slippery fighter was able to fight his way off the ropes and turn the tide back in his favor. After the end of 10 rounds of super bantamweight action all three judgessaw the fight in Payano’s favor by scores of 100-90 e 99-91 duas vezes.
I want my titles back,” said Payano. “I don’t care who is holding which titles at 118 e 122 libras. I’ll fight anyone and show I’m still a champion.
I thought the fight was a little closer,” disse Santiago. “He did more work than me but I thought I had good moments. I wanted to box him a little more but I couldn’t find my range so I just tried to close down the gaps. We just have to go back to the drawing board and stay more active. I want to get a tune-up fight then get right back to fighting top guys.
The co-main event saw once-beaten Ladarius Miller (14-1, 4 KOs) score a unanimous decision victory over 2012 U.S. Olímpico Jamel Herring (16-2, 9 KOs) in their 10-round lightweight bout.
The southpaws began the fight carefully, with Miller looking to establish his jab while Herring showed great movement early and tried to catch Miller in the pocket. The exchanges picked up in round two, although both men were still primarily throwing one punch at a time.
I know I out-jabbed him,” disse Miller. “When we jabbed each other, I thought my jab was stronger than his. I gave him two different styles. There were times where I walked him down and times where I boxed him.
Miller began to pick up the aggressiveness in round three, following up his jab with a straight left hand over the top that snapped Herring’s head. Herring continued to focus on his movement and mixed-in good body work several times to finish off exchanges.
In round five Herring began to plant himself inside and looked to counter Miller, but was unable to do enough clean work to get the attention of the judges as Miller continued to throw back with left hands and movement that occasionally frustrated Herring.
“Eu pensei que era uma luta renhida,” disse Herring. “I thought when I came forward and pressed the fight he started retreating and moving.
Both men squared-off in the center of the ring for the final three rounds, as each looked to deliver a shot that would seal the fight in their favor. The flurry of action led to judgesdisagreements on all three of the final action-packed rounds.
In the end it was Miller’s consistent work throughout the fight that got him the nod from all three judges by scores of 98-92 e 97-93 duas vezes.
I thought 97-93 was the right score,” disse Miller. “I took it easy in round nine and felt him out in the first two rounds. But the rest of the fight I felt like I dominated. It’s a process. I’m just climbing the ladder right now. I want to get another test and fight more strong fighters. I want to be on the biggest stages. I’m ready for the step up.
I thought I landed some heavy shots in there and was more aggressive,” disse Herring. “Obviously the judges saw it differently. I’ll get back with my team and see what’s next, but I did think I won the fight. I thought I won the last two rounds and pulled it out.

LAS VEGAS (Agosto 8, 2017) – O ex-campeão do mundo Juan Carlos Payano (18-1, 9 KOs) vai enfrentar Alexis Santiago (21-4-1, 8 KOs) in a 10-round bantamweight matchup that headlines Premier Boxe dos Campeões TERÇA TOE-de-toe em FS1 e Boxe dos Campeões em FOX Sports Agosto 22 from Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas and presented by Mayweather Promotions.
Payano versus Santiago replaces the previously announced main event that featured a lightweight match between Mickey Bey and Anthony Peterson that was cancelled after Bey was injured in training.
I am excited to be back in the ring and on the way back to the top,” said Payano. “I don’t plan to allow anything to derail me from being champion again. I’m ready to put on a great performance and get the big fights that I want. I’m looking forward to once again reigning supreme in this division. I’m never in a boring fight so you won’t want to miss it on Agosto 22!”
I’ve been staying steady with training camp and everything has been really smooth,” disse Santiago. “After my last fight I took a few months off to let my body heal and I feel much better going into this fight. My opponent is tough and aggressive. He’s a former world champion but I feel that I have what it takes to win. This fight is happening during the biggest fight week in boxing and I couldn’t be happier. I’m just staying focused on doing what I have to do to get in the ring and get that win.
Cobertura televisionada começa em 9 p.m. E/6 p.m. PT as part of an exciting week of events presented by Mayweather Promotions and leading up to the Mayweather vs. McGregor showdown no sábado.
O Agosto 22 show will also feature a showdown between once-beaten lightweights Jamel Herring (16-1, 9 KOs) e Ladarius Miller (13-1, 4 KOs), who will meet in a 10-round match.
I was so excited when I got the news that I got this opportunity,” disse Herring. “This is a huge stage for me to be on and it is an honor. I’ve been training alongside some great guys in camp to make sure I am in top shape and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m familiar with Ladarius from when I trained in the Mayweather Boxing Club a couple years ago. Eu não subestimá-lo, but I’ve been in the ring with tough vets and I think I’ve got what it takes.
I think a lot of people have doubted me in the past, but lately I feel like I am finally getting the recognition I knew I deserved,” disse Miller. “My team has been great in encouraging me to stay consistent. I had to make a lot of changes to help me evolve as a fighter physically and mentally. I feel mentally locked in right now and my last few fights have showed my hungry wont-back-down side and on Agosto 22 the fans just better be ready to see ‘Memphis.I’ve seen my opponents resume and all I can say is, this is going to be a good olbrawl.

It is truly going to be an action filled night of boxing.

The accomplished amateur won gold at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean games with victories over McJoe Arroyo and Yoandris Salinas. The Phoenix-native defeated Gustavo Molina, Javier Gallo and Antonio Tostado Garcia in 2015 and and has also taken down once-beaten fighters Alex Rangel and Hanzel Martinez. He will make his 2017 debut against one of his most experienced foes to date in Payano.

The 31-year-old won his first 15 pro fights including triumphs over Luis Eduardo Florez, Yakubu Amidu and Hector Velasquez.
