Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday in Santa Monica:
CHRIS AVALOS
I’ve had a lot of experience with Leo when we were growing up. We really know each other inside and out. It’s going to be a non-stop war. I know that he won’t let up and I’ll never give an inch.
This has been a really great camp. I feel really strong and fresh and ready for a 12-round battleen sábado.
I’m going to try to use my familiarity with Leo to my advantage. Obviously we’ve both grown up, but it definitely gives me some extra confidence.
It’s very important that I put on a good performance Sábado. A lot of people have written me off and it’s my job to just prove them all wrong.
“Va a ser una pelea muy buena. It’s going to be action from start to finish. I’ve been on this kind of platform before so my nerves are all calmed. I’m just really excited to get in the ring.
ANDRES GUTIERREZ
Everything has gone really smoothly in training camp. I feel 100 percent physically and I’m ready to fight.
I’m going to have to come forward and fight strong for 12 rounds against Abner Mares. I have to use my power punches and attack the entire fight.
I’m very happy and motivated heading into this fight. I’m eager to get a chance at a title for the first time.
The fans are going to love my style. I come forward and throw punches. Fans appreciate that and I want to give them a memorable performance.
“Va a ser una guerra. I’m not giving an inch and at the end of the night, I will have both hands in the air and a belt around my waist.
EDDIE RAMIREZ
It feels good to be on this platform. This is just the start for me. All the top guys have been in my position and they took advantage of their opportunities. I have to put on a great show to lead up to these two title fights.
“El campo de entrenamiento ha sido realmente bueno. We worked hard every day and I’m ready to fight. No puedo esperar.
DeMarco is a crafty veteran. I need to be strong and smart. It’s all going to come down to me being the better overall fighter.
I’m ready to do anything in the ring. If I have to box, I’ll do that. If I need to brawl, I’ll do that. We’ll see how the fight goes but I’ll be prepared to adjust and do what it takes to get the win.
I’ve tried to make myself a smarter fighter in the last year. I have to work smarter. That’s really going to let me unlock the rest of my potential.
If I’m able to get a stoppage, I’m going to jump on it. I’m prepared to be the more intelligent fighter and use my brain to get the win.
Antonio DeMarco
I came back to the ring because I am 100 percent mentally ready to compete. Any issues that I had in the past are gone. Most importantly, my sister has beaten cancer and she said that if she can come back, then so can I.
I feel really strong right now. I came back with the team that made me world champion and it’s got me very motivated to enter the ring and give the fans a beautiful fight en sábado.
I have no fear of any opponent. I have the normal nervous energy leading up to the fight, but I have been in this situation before and faced a lot of great fighters.
“Ramírez es un joven, fuerte oponente. He’s undefeated and I know that he’s going to be motivated to keep his perfect record. I’m ready to do whatever it takes to get the win.
IVAN REDKACH
It’s been a very tough training camp. I’m in excellent shape from working in the gym with Leo Santa Cruz for about three months. I’m excited to make my debut at 140-pounds.
It had been too hard to cut weight for lightweight. It was draining all of my strength. I’m going to have a lot more power and show a lot more of my game on Octubre 14.
I’ve trained sparring partners of every kind. I also did some work in Jorge Linarescamp leading up to his fight. I’ve been testing myself every day to get better.
Being in the gym with Leo gives me lots of motivation. He also helps me with all of the technical parts of my game. He stays on top of me and has helped me get better.
EIMANTAS STANIONIS
Working with Freddie Roach has been amazing. He’s shown me so many new things and I’m really blessed to be in this position.
I just had a fight three weeks ago so I’m excited to get back in the ring. I’ve stayed in shape the whole time, which is what I want to do. I’m always mentally prepared to step in the ring as well as physically.
It’s a great motivation to be on a big card like this. I can’t wait to perform in front of these fans and show them my skills.
My style is like a Mexican-style. I like to put pressure on my opponent and throw punches. I can do it all in the ring and I can’t wait to show off all of it.

Más! Rematch Between Welterweight Prospects Jamontay Clark & Ivan Golub in Co-Main Event & Ryan Karl Returns Against
Kareem Martin in Battle of Prospects
PEDERNAL, MI. – (Octubre 4, 2017) – Ex campeón mundial de peso súper mediano Anthony Dirrell (30-1-1, 24 KOs) se reunirá Denis Douglin (20-5, 13 KOs) in a 10-round bout that headlines a Premier Boxing Champions special edition of MARTES TOE-TO-TOE en FS1 y BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes on November 17 from Dort Federal Credit Union Center in Flint, Michigan at 10:30 p.m. Y/ p.m. PT.
The 10-round bout is a homecoming for Dirrell, who was born and raised in Flint along with his brother and top contender, Otro. It will be the third time that he has fought in his hometown with the 32-year-old’s last outing in Flint ending with a knockout of Dante Craig at Atwood Stadium on July 2, 2011. Since losing his title via majority decision to Badou Jack in 2015, Dirrell has won three straight bouts including his most recent fight, a fifth-round stoppage of Norbert Nemesapati in January.
Las entradas para el evento en vivo, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and A.D.D. Enterprises, comenzar en $20. Para comprar boletos, visit the Dort Federal Credit Union Center box office or Ticketmaster.com.
Douglin has fought a lot of good fighters and I respect him, but he’s standing in the way of my title shot,” dijo Dirrell. “This is a chance for me to showcase my skills. I’m going for a stoppage, and I think I’m going to get it in the middle rounds. I want to put on a great performance and give the fans something to see. I’m going to get the job done.
The 29-year-old Douglin of Marlboro, N.J. has stood in against some of the toughest boxers in the sport, including 168-pound champions David Benavidez and George Groves, plus 154-pound champion Jermell Charlo. In his last match, Douglin lost on a TKO to Benavidez after winning three straight bouts by stoppage.
I’ve taken a lot of fights on short notice and that’s hurt me in the past, but I’ve had ample time and a great training camp to prepare for this fight,” dijo Douglin. “I think Dirrell has a problem with guys who aren’t afraid of him and who will actually give him a fight. With my style and determination, I’m going to bring a lot more than he’s expecting. I’m going to bring it for 10 rounds and I know I’ll have my arm raised at the end of the day.
Jamontay Clark (12-0, 7 KOs) y Ivan Golub (13-1, 11 KOs) will meet in an eight-round welterweight bout that serves as a rematch of their exciting Junio 30showdown which ended with Clark winning a unanimous decision.
The 23-year-old Clark of Cincinnati, Ohio is looking to remain unbeaten and pick up his third victory of the year, while the 28-year-old Golub, who was born in Ukraine and now lives in Brooklyn, wants to hand Clark the first loss of his career and erase what he believes was a bad decision in their first fight. Coming into the first fight between the two southpaw welterweight prospects, Golub had stopped seven straight opponents.
Ryan “Vaquero” Karl (14-1, 9 KOs) se enfrentará a Kareem Martin (9-1-1, 3 KOs) in an eight-round junior welterweight match that opens televised coverage. The 25-year-old Karl of Houston is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Carlos Winston Velasquez in his last fight on Julio 18 as he bounced back from the first loss of his career when he lost to Eddie Ramirez in February.
The 22-year-old Martin of Washington D.C. scored a unanimous decision victory over Evincil Dixon in his last fight on Agosto. 12 as he works his way back from a defeat to David Grayton last year.
Anthony Dirrell headlining in his hometown of Flint will be a great treat for boxing fans in the area,” dijo Tom Brown, Presidente de Promociones TGB. “This is something that Anthony Dirrell has wanted for a long time and I’m sure that he is going to be at his absolute best and look to really impress in front of his fans on Noviembre 17. He will have a tough challenge from the strong Denis Douglin, but if he’s able to get by him, we could see Anthony Dirrell fighting for a world title in the very near future.

Robbery at the Cannery! Scoring Woes Continue in Las Vegas as Eduardo Ramirez Cheated by Bad Judging

Barthelemy-Ramirez Ends in Dubious Draw
A loud chorus of boos rang out as another controversial Las Vegas decision was rendered in esta noche Leduan Barthelemy vs. Eduardo Ramirez featherweight battle at the Cannery Hotel & Casino en Las Vegas.
Ramírez, of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, México, seemed to have done more than enough to deserve the nod over a listless Barthelemy in the 10-round featherweight main event of a Premier Boxing Champions “Cuba vs. México” TOE-TO-TOE Martes evento, televised nationally on FS1 & BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes.
Después 10 rounds of pounding and chasing the exhausted Cuban around the ring, often landing multi-punch combinations to the head and body, Ramirez and corner rightfully celebrated their well-deserved upset victoryBut in Las Vegas boxing, nothing is certain, especially scoring.
While Judge Glen Trowbridge was able to pick the right winner at least (but by too tight a margin) en 96-94, the other two inexplicably scored the lopsided beating (Tim Cheatham) 95-95 and an unbelievable 97-93 Barthelemy from Patricia Morse Jarman.
This controversial scoring is the second time Las Vegas judges have made major blunders on national television in a short time, as it comes less than two weeks after the Canelo vs. GGG scoring debacle.
It is also not the first time Morse Jarman has been involved in controversial and highly questionable scoring.
Her decades of head-scratching scores include having Fernando Vargas ahead of Oscar De La Hoya at the time of De La Hoya’s 11th round stoppage victory, as well as having Beibut Shumenov winning 117-111 in a fight against Gabriel Campillo that Campillo clearly dominated and was robbed. Also among her long list of missteps, Morse Jarman had Marco Antonio Barrera beating Nasim Hamed by a mere three points in a fight regarded by all (except Morse Jarman) as a one-sided beating.
With the “dibujar” Barthelemy escapes to 13-0-1, 7 KOs. Ramirez undeservedly sinks to 20-0-3, 7 KOs.

LAS VEGAS (Septiembre 26, 2017) – Pesos pluma invicto Leduan Bartolomé (13-0-1, 7 KOs) y Eduardo Ramirez (20-0-3, 7 KOs) fought to an exciting split draw in their 10-round brawl that headlined Liga de Campeones de Boxeo MARTES TOE-TO-TOE en FS1 y BOXEO DE CAMPEONESpor FOX Deportes Martes night from the Cannery Hotel & Casino en Las Vegas.
The back-and-forth battle saw Barthelemy attempt to take advantage of his length early while Ramirez fought hard to do damage on the inside. By round four, Ramirez had begun to break through Barthelemy’s defense and by the sixth round he connected with Barthelemy repeatedly with no response to score a huge round in his favor.
I wanted to pressure him all the way through and take away his reach advantage,” dijo Ramírez. “I felt good the whole fight and he never hurt me at any point. I believed in my skills and I performed well.
It was a very tough, physical fight for both of us,” Said Bartolomé. “I didn’t feel 100 percent but I was able to work through it and I never felt hurt during the fight. He landed on me but I was able to keep my composure.
Barthelemy was able to recover and began to stifle Ramirez’s aggressiveness by pivoting effectively and landing punches from different angles. By the final round, the two fighters resorted to brawling on the inside, with both men landing big punches all the way to the final bell.
In the end the judgesscores reflected the close nature of the bout as one judge scored the fight 97-93 for Barthelemy while another judge scored the bout 96-94 for Ramirez. The fight was declared a split draw after the final score was announced as 95-95.
“Sin duda lo pelear de nuevo,” Said Bartolomé. “I’ll be ready for another great battle and I’ll get the clear victory this time.
I thought that I won the fight, it was a close fight but I believe that I did what I had to do to win,” dijo Ramírez. “I would fight him again and beat him even worse.
Additional action saw once-beaten Alejandro Salinas (9-1, 8 KOs) was able to earn a unanimous decision over rugged brawler Ver Duarn (12-1, 4 KOs) in their eight-round super featherweight contest.
The fight was defined by close quarters exchanges that began right after the opening bell as Vue charged Salinas and tried to navigate the distance and brawl with Salinas. The tide quickly turned for Salinas who established his right hand and connected several times cleanly with Vue’s head.
Vue did not stop attacking and forced Salinas to vary his attack and add in uppercuts and left hooks with his effective right hand. While Vue was able to tag Salinas as he tired into the later rounds, it was not enough to come back in the minds of the judges as all three scored the bout for Salinas by scores of 80-72, 79-73 y 77-75.
The opening bout saw Bryan Figueroa (13-0, 5 KOs) remain unbeaten and win a close decision over Iván Jiménez (7-1-1, 4 KOs) in their six round lightweight fight.
Figueroa took his time early trying to utilize his height advantage to strike Jimenez from a distance and in round three he connected on a hard left hand that backed up and staggered his opponent. Jimenez was able to stay on his feet, and had success at times getting on the inside and hitting Figueroa with hooks, but was not able to land consistently enough.
The fiery exchanges continued through the sixth and final round with Figueroa eventually earning the decision on all three judgesscorecards by the score of 58-56.

The fast-rising star Barrios of San Antonio started the bout throwing multiple combinations to the head and body of Nelson of Philadelphia. He kept his distance and stayed patient, but did not get to showcase all of the tools in his arsenal as the fight took a turn in the third round when Nelson went to the canvas after hurting his left shoulder by throwing a hook. That was ruled a slip and he dropped to his knees again after throwing another punch, but after being examined by the ringside doctor, it was determined that Nelson could continue.
Barrios was not deterred and continued to move forward, apply pressure and control the action into the fourth round. By the fifth, Nelson’s work rate dropped significantly, which Barrios took advantage of by battering the Philadelphia-native against the ropes. Throughout the sixth, Barrios stalked Nelson around the ring while Nelson tried to work through his apparent shoulder injury, countering with the right where he could. Al final, Barrios sent Nelson to the canvas with a hard left hand causing Referee Gary Rosato to wave off the bout at 1:41 de la séptima ronda. The victory over Nelson marks Barriosfourth straight stoppageall of which have taken place since he started working with renowned trainer Virgil Hunter.
I apologize to the fans of Pennsylvania as I wanted to put on a show esta noche,” said Barrios. “After I caught him, he was trying to survive. He was moving around. I did not concentrate if he hurt his shoulder or not.
I just want to keep moving along and get better. I want to fight again before the end of the year if possible and I know I will put on a show in my next fight.
I was doing well and I had him, but I hurt my shoulder,” said Nelson. “I thought I was doing a good job, but my shoulder just hurt too much. This is a sport and injuries happen.
En la pelea co-estelar, lightweights Thomas Velasquez (9-0, 5 KOs) of Philadelphia and Tyrome Jones (4-2, 1 KO) of South Bend, En. Tyrome Jones fought to a draw in a fast-paced six-round bout. Velásquez, who is mentored by former world champion Danny Garcia, started the fight going to Jonesbody and stuck with that plan throughout. As the fight wore on, Jones turned up the heat and listened to his corner who told him to stay busy and aggressive. Velasquez landed multiple straight left hands in the fourth that stung Jones, but the Indiana-native was able to counter with several straight lefts of his own. The sixth and final round showcased hard-fought action from both pugilists with Jones throwing several hard lefts with Velasquez countering with his own flurries of shots finishing the fight strong. Al final, the judges ruled the bout even 59-55 for each and 57-57.
I had to use the jab in this fight as well as my double-jab and body shots were working well,” dijo Velásquez. “This was a great learning fight and I felt that I won. I can’t wait to get back in the gym, apply what I learned and get back in the ring again soon.
This was a tough fight against an undefeated guy who came in confident,” dijo Jones. “I countered very well and I got to him. I feel that I won the fight, but sometimes the judges don’t see it that way.
The opening bout saw light heavyweights Earl Newman (10-0-1, 7 KOs) de Brooklyn, NY and Paul Parker (8-2-1, 4 KOs) de Toledo, OH fight to an eight-round draw. Parker made it awkward for Newman in the first two rounds by starting out strong, moving forward, diving in and staying busy. Sin embargo, Newman came out of the corner swinging in the third, throwing a left hook that forced Parker to tap the canvas with his glove although it was not ruled a knockdown by referee Benjy Esteves.
Neman worked his right hand throughout the fourth round, ready to counter Parker’s shots. Newman drove Parker back with a left hook in the fifth and continued to put pressure on the Ohio-native throughout the round. The two-time New York Golden Gloves winner continued to press forward and walk down Parker in the later rounds, but was unable to finish strong enough to be victorious as the judges scored the bout 79-32 (Newman), 77-75 (Parker) y 76-76.
After a year off I felt rusty,” said Newman. “I saw the punches, but I did not react as well as I wanted to. Habiendo dicho eso, I kept pressuring and landed more to the body. I felt I won the fight. Now it is back to the drawing board. I definitely can’t be inactive for a long time again.
“Él es un gran peleador,” dijo Parker. “I listened to my corner and followed the game plan. He caught me with some good punches, but I landed more. I wobbled him and I was busier. I really feel that I won the fight. Quiero una revancha”
