BRISCOE AWARDS THIS SUNDAY AT 1 PM ET

Philadelphia – After ten years of celebrating the biggest and best achievements of the Philadelphia-area boxing scene, the Briscoe Awards will change the timing of their annual event, from October to March.
“For a few years now, I’ve considered moving the awards up to the first part of the year,” said John DiSanto, founder of the Briscoe Awards. “The original Fall time slot caused a lot of confusion, because by the time we gave out the awards, the fights were old news. Moving to March will allow us to give out the awards shortly after the fight year ends. I’m a little nervous about making a change, but in the long run, the move will only make the Briscoe Awards better.”
The Briscoe Awards honor the key fights and fighters of the Philly area every year. A total of eleven awards will be give out THIS SUNDAY MARCH 25TH AT 1 PM ET, which includes prizes for the “Philly whawhai o te Tau”, te “Philly whawhai o te Tau”, te “Knockout o te Tau”, “Amateur of the Year”, “Ihupuku o te Tau”, “E 'amanaki o te Tau”, “Performance of the Year”, “Photo of the Year”, me te ake.
The fighters being honored this year include Tyrone Brunson, Jaron Ennis, Kermit Cintron, Dylan Price, Avery Sparrow, Marcel Rivers, Raymond Ford, Jerome Conquest, and others.

New York, NY (March 19, 2018)–Split-T Management is proud to announce the signing of 5-time New York Golden Gloves champion and 2017 United States Amateur champion Brian Ceballo to a management contract.

 

 

 

 

 

Te 24 year-old is a native of Brooklyn, New York had a stellar amateur career that saw him win 17 National championships beginning at 11 years old when he won the National Silver Gloves championship.

 

 

 

 

Ceballo, who began boxing at 8 years-old won 11 National titles as a junior and 6 National titles as a senior which includes the 2016 National Golden Gloves title, 2017 United States National Title.

 

 

 

 

Ceballo also captured the 2014 World Series of Boxing Team Trials, and was a Olympic trials semifinalist.

“Brian has been the top amateur welterweight in New York, as well as the United States for the past several years. “I first met (CEO of Split-T Management) David McWater at the 2016 National Golden karapu, which I won. I wasn’t ready to turn professional, but we talked. I would talk to other managers, some who appeared to offer me better deals, but I decided to sign with him because I had a great relationship with him, and I liked him as a person. Russian Bantamweight Contender Nikolai Potapov Returns with TKO over Saltykov

Former NABO Champion and #2-rated WBO bantamweight contender Nikolai Potapov returned to action last Saturday night with a TKO 3 over his Russian countryman, Alexander Saltykov.

Fighting at the Floyd Mayweather Boxing Academy in Zhukovka, Russia, Potapov looked sharp while forcing Saltykov to stay on his stool after two rounds of pounding.
The 28-year-old Potapov holds a victory over former world title challenger Antonio Nieves and fought to a draw with Stephen Young, who is fighting for WBA Interim title this weekend.
“I am excited to get the win and look forward to challenging the best bantamweights in the world,” said Potapov, pou-whawhai. “Every experience is a lesson and I keep improving with each fight and training camp. Training in Detroit at the Kronk Boxing Gym with Javan Sugar Hill Steward has taken my game to the next level. I am grateful to my promoters Salita Promotions and PBL. I know this is going to be a big year for me.”
Potapov’s co-promoter, Dmitriy Salita, says his Russian bantamweight is a force at 118 lbs. “Nikolai is one of the best bantamweights in the world. His dedication, discipline in training and constant improvement make him a real threat in his exciting division.”

2001 Fight of the Year Reunion for final stop of 2018 USA vs. Ireland Northeast Tour

Colorado Springs, Lap. (March 19, 2018) – Retired pro boxer Emanuel Augustus has confirmed his attendance this week at a USA Boxing-hosted reunion of the 2001 Whawhai o te Tau, associated with the final stop on the 2018 USA vs. Ireland Northeast Boxing Tour festivities in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Te 2001 Fight of the Year was held July 13, 2001, at Hampton Beach Casino in Hampton, NH., and it is still considered one of the greatest matches ever broadcast on ESPN. “Irish” Micky Ward won an incredibly entertaining, back-and-forth junior welterweight match-up with “boxing cult” hero Emanuel Augustus, by way of a 10-round unanimous decision that was much closer than the judges’ scoring indicated (98-90, 96-91, 96-94).
“Ward versus Augustus was truly the event of the year in boxing and we’re so happy it was held right here in New Hampshire,” said Stephen, who has been in his position as chairman since 1974, “Micky was losing the fight until the later rounds. As the chairperson of he commission, I checked the judges’ scorecards after six or seven rounds and Micky was losing. Na, Micky caught Augustus, dropped and really hurt him. He went on to win a great fight.”
The high-profile win positioned Ward for what turned out to be his epic Gatti trilogy, while Augustus went on to become one of the most dangerous, upset-minded opponents in boxing. Ward, Augustus and the third man in the ring that night, Hall of Fame referee Steve Smoger, will host as USA Alumni Association event Tuesday, Moana. 20 at The Shaskeen Pub & Restaurant (909 Elm St. i roto i te Manchester), tīmata i 6 p.m. AND.
The trio will also be joined by two others closely associated with the 2001 Whawhai o te Tau, Chairman of the New Hampshire Boxing and Wrestling Commission, Bobby Stephen, as well as International matchmaker, Eric Bottjer, who made the Ward-Augustus fight in 2001.

A special lightweight novice WILL open the competition, showcasing two Manchester amateur boxers, Abhisek Thapa (Title Boxing Club) a Michael Correa (Manchester PAL).
Presented by Corona Premium, the Manchester event will start at 7 p.m. EST, and it also serves as a fundraiser for another partner of the show, the Manchester PAL Boxing Club.

Falcao excited for Massachusetts debut; ready to put on a show

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 16, 2018) – Team USA defeated Team Ireland, 7-3, last night (Rāpare) on the second stop of the three-city 2018 USA vs. Ireland Northeast mekemeke Tour, at MassMutual Center MGM Springfield in Massachusetts.

Team USA defeated Team Ireland in team scoring, 8-4, last Monday in the first dual and it also clinched the team title last night, holding a 2-0 advantage with one more match-up to go in the series.

In a rematch of last Monday’s match, heavy-handed American welterweight Oshae Jones, te 2017 Elite Women’s Continental Championships silver medalist, won a hard-fought split decision over Grainne Walsh for the second time in a row. Jones dropped Walsh in the opening round, but the Irish boxer battled back in another second spirited confrontation.
In the opening match of the evening, Virginia light welterweight Amelia Moore, in her first international bout, upset World Championships silver medalist lightweight Kellie Harrington, 2-1.

ICYMI: When U.K.-based YouTube star KSI was in need of boxing expertise and guidance, he turned to two-time world champion Badou Jack “Ko te Ripper,” embedding with Team Jack and trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. for a week-long training regimen at Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas.
Jack, who last fought on August 26, 2017 and knocked out Nathan Cleverly on the televised undercard of the record-breaking Mayweather vs. McGregor fight card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas was back in the gym preparing for his upcoming bout.
