DEXTER GETS SECOND CHANCE TO WIN GOLD IN A NEW WEIGHT CLASS

Lewiston, Maine (Lub yim hli ntuj 19, 2015) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, will hold its nineteenth mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, “NEF XIX: HOMECOMING,” Rau hnub Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine. That night, Team Irish’s Ricky Dexter (3-1) is scheduled to meet CJ Ewer (3-2) in an NEF MMA Amateur Welterweight Title eliminator. Recently, Dexter was the guest on the NEF Podcast hosted by NEF co-owner and matchmaker Matt Peterson.

A veteran of the United States Navy, Dexter joined Marcus Davis’s Team Irish gym after moving home to Bangor, Maine at the conclusion of his military service. Eventually, Dexter took over the fitness program at the gym, now known as “207 Athletes.Dexter touched on his progression from joining the gym to becoming a trainer.

I wanted to keep working out and keep in good shape,” said Dexter of his return home to Maine from military service. “I figured I’d go work out with the guys at Team Irish. I started doing their workout regimen. I dabbled a little bit with MMA training. Slowly I got more into it over time. It was a good workout. As time went on, I got better at it. I got more addicted with the more I learned, with Marcus’s knowledge, I got addicted to it. He hired me to run his fitness class. After that, I figured I’d take a fight. I was in pretty good shape.

Earlier this year, Dexter engaged in a grueling slugfest with Cory Trial (1-1) tom “NEF XVI.It was just Dexter’s second fight in the MMA cage. The bout ended in a knockout victory for Dexter. The highlight-reel knockout will, no doubt, be in the running for a nomination forKO of the Year” thaum lub “NEF 2015 Year-End Awards.

The first round I pretty much remember,” recalled Dexter. “The second round I kind of went into a trance. I don’t really remember much of it, just from watching the video. When you get to that point your training takes over. You kind of black out and, before you know it, you’re getting your hand raised.

In all, Dexter finished his first three amateur bouts on his way to getting a shot at the NEF MMA Amateur Lightweight Championship atNEF XVIIIthis past June against Josh Harvey (4-1). Dexter would lose the bout by first-round submission. AtNEF XIX” rau September 12, Dexter will have a chance to avenge that loss when he meets Havey’s Young’s MMA teammate CJ Ewer in a bout that will be a title eliminator for the NEF MMA Amateur Welterweight Championship.

He’s a really good wrestler, a big guy,” Dexter said of Ewer. “He looks like he’s pretty skilled. He comes from a respected school in Young’s. We all know what he’s gonna do, and we all know what I have to do.

Let’s Hear It From The GirlsMarston, Smith & Brown Presser Quotes

There was more than a hint of glamour in attendance at the recent press conference, for the upcoming Mark Lyons and Billy James-Elliott promoted LORDS OF THE RING II event, which took place at The Square Pie in Spitalfields Market, as all three female boxers that will be taking part were in attendance, along with other boxers that will be competing at this historic event.

LORDS OF THE RING II is secured it’s place in the history books of the sport as this will be the first professional boxing event, in the UK, to feature three female combatants.

The first to speak was Team GB athlete Shaunagh Brown, from Peckham, London, a successful athlete in three disciplines, Shot Putt, Hammer Throw and Discus, who makes her professional debut on August 29th.

“I’m excited to be making my pro debut next week, I can’t wait.

I’ve always worked hard to prepare for a competition, but the work you have to do as a boxer is another level altogether.

My coach Mark (former Commonwealth Champion Mark Reefer) has been brilliant, I’ve learned so much from him, he really has made this move from athletics to boxing much easier than it should have been.

I’m just looking forward to getting in the ring now and do just what Mark has taught me to do”

Next to speak was Leeds, Yorkshire’s Sam Smith, who recently beat Zsofia Bedo to secure the International Masters International title, on just her third professional bout.

“It’s been a long journey to get here today but it’s been worth it, it’s been my dream to fight at York Hall one day and now I am.

This has all happened so fast, I fought on August 2nd and was going to take a week off from training, but when Lee (former Irish Champion Lee Murtagh) said he could get me on the show that went straight out the door, I had to take it, so just took a couple of days off and then straight back in the gym to get ready.

I’m ready and raring to go, can’t wait.”

Finally British #1 and reigning MBC International Champion, Woolwich, London’s Marianne Marston took to the mike.

“I would not only like to thank Mark and Billy (promoters Mark Lyons and Billy James-Elliott) for giving myself the opportunity to fight on their August 29th show, but also thank them for unwavering support of Women’s boxing.

It’s an honour to be involved in such an historic event, have to say though it’s been a rather long time coming.

Everyone expected that Women’s boxing would take off here, after the success of the sport at the London 2012 Olympics, but it’s only now that it is, although saying that I must stress that this is only possible because of the MBC (Malta Boxing Commission), as they are the only pro organization operating in the UK that actively encourage and support Women’s Professional Boxing.

Hopefully this is the start of big things for us, last year we had myself and Angel (McKenzie) fighting on the same show, now we have Sam, Shaunagh and myself all fighting on the same event, hopefully by this time next year we will create even more history with an all female event.

I can’t wait to get back in the ring, it’s been nearly ten months since I last fought, which is way too long.

I’m pleased to say that the injury that stopped me fighting earlier in the year is now healed, so I have been able to train fully for next Saturday’s fight.

We’re all hoping that there will be some good support from the fans, not only is it the new season opener and the first chance to catch some boxing action in the Capital after the summer break, but also it’s the first time ever that there are three Women’s boxing bouts on a pro show.

So get your tickets now, this is definitely a not to be missed show.”

The Mark Lyons and Billy James-Elliott Wise Guys promotions LORDS OF THE RING II event will take place at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 29th Lub yim hli ntuj 2015.

This event is sanctioned courtesy of the Malta Boxing Commission (MBC) www.maltaboxingcommission.com

After 31 second knockout, Dawejko looks forward to ShoBox date with Visinia on August 28

Philadelphia, PAJ (Lub yim hli ntuj 18, 2015)– On August 7 at Ballys in Atlantic City, Joey Dawejko made quick work of Robert Dunton to the tune of 31 second-1 punch stoppage and now the Philadelphia Heavyweight looks to an Lub yim hli ntuj 28 showdown with good friend Natu Visinia in a bout scheduled for 8-rounds at The D Las Vegas. The bout will be televised live on ShoBox: Lub cim tshiab.
Just days after the win over Dunton, Dawejko boarded a plane with trainer Buddy McGirt and assistant trainer Greg Hackett and went right back to work to begin preparations for the fight with Visinia.
We took that fight just to get Joey back in a winning frame of mind. After the fight with Amir Mansour, Buddy began correcting went wrong in that fight. The Mansour fight was the first fight with Buddy and by the time August 28 comes around, Joey and Buddy will basically been working for 10 straight weeks. I believe that the familiarity will produce the results that we are looking for,” said Dawejko’s manager Mark Cipparone of Club 1957 Management.
This is a very important fight for Joey. He knows that this is the next opportunity to prove that he is a top Heavyweight contender on national television. It is also important because he is a promotional free agent and we have a couple of nice deals already presented to us and a good win over a tough opponent in Natu is another way to showcase himself to all those who are interested.

Travis Kauffman returns with 1st round destruction over Carmack

Reading, PAJ (Lub yim hli ntuj 18, 2015)–Last Friday night at the Prudential Center inNewark, New Jersey, Heavyweight contender Travis Kauffman (29-1, 21 KO's) scored a first round stoppage over Richard Carmack in Kauffman’s first fight in 19 months.

Kauffman landed a perfect right hook from the southpaw stance that sent Carmack down at 2:07.

The bout took place on a card that was headlined by a fight between former world champions Antonio Tarver and Steve Cunningham that ended in a draw.

I didn’t think Carmack would hit as hard as he did. I went out there with the mindset of going some rounds to work off ring rust. As soon as he hit me with a right hand, I knew that he was strong and wanted to get him out quick. The gameplan that we worked on was to go to the body and once I dropped him, I knew he was done,” said Kauffman.

Kauffman is due back on September 18 at the Claridge in Atlantic City.

I wasted no time and am already back in the gym with Naazim Richardson and my dad and I am ready to move forward with bigger fights. I expect this fight to be another tune up and then I will be ready for a much bigger fight.
