Going for Glory: Rite Hook Promotions’ Woods and Bissett to travel for opportunities

Biloxi, MS (May 6, 2016) – Rite Hook Promotions CEO William Hunter is not afraid to present his fighters with challenging and potential career changing opportunities. Having successfully promoted and built his boxers locally in Biloxi, Hunter is a firm believer that fighters can win anywhere under fair circumstances.

“It’s always a pleasure working with hungry fighters that aren’t scared to bite down on their mouthpiece and give it everything they’ve got whether it’s in a tune up fight or against the best in the world. There are only a handful of guys willing to take these opportunities and see that there’s a bigger picture if they win.”

Two of those men are Rite Hook’s very own Manny “Shake em’ Up” Woods and Mike “Concrete” Bissett.

Living and fighting out of St. Petersburg, FL, Woods travels to Lincoln, RI to challenge undefeated Jimmy Williams Friday, May 13 in a six round junior middleweight bout. A former football standout who received multiple NFL tryouts, Williams is 10-0-1 la 5 knockouts and fought all of his bouts in Connecticut or Rhode Island. While undefeated, Williams hasn’t fought the same level of opposition as Woods.

With a solid 15-4-1 ledger and 5 group, Woods won five of his last six bouts and is fresh off a unanimous decision victory over tough Mexican Elias Espadas last month. Horaantii uu mustaqbalkiisa, Woods outpointed future title contender Wilky Campfort and then unbeaten Shelden Moore. With an experience advantage and recent hot streak, Hunter is confident his fighter will be the first to defeat Williams.

“First and foremost I respect Jimmy because he’s a great athlete and has been through a lot in his personal life. I think he’s a good boxer but Manny’s already been in deep waters. He knows what it’s like to have the odds stacked against him and do what he has to in order to get the W. Jimmy’s never been in this position before and I believe he’s biting off more than he can chew against Manny.“

One week later in Central Point, OR, Bissett faces highly touted Mike Wilson in a cruiserweight matchup. A two-time US amateur champion, Wilson is 13-0 la 7 victories by KO and was considered a top prospect when he came out of the amateurs. Currently doubling as a fighter and promoter, Wilson’s last five bouts took place in his native Oregon and he’s stopped his last three foes.

Born in Mississippi and based in Tampa, FL, the hard-hitting Bissett’s professional ledger reads 10-8 la 7 group. He’s fought a number of notable fighters including 2012 Olympians Michael Hunter and Dominic Breazeale, rising star Stivens Bujaj and then unbeaten Milos Pantelic twice. A winner in three of his last four, Bissett’s career best victory came in 2014 when he outpointed popular contender Nicholas Iannuzzi. Much like his stalemate Woods against Williams, Bissett has the experience advantage having been in tough multiple times.

“Wilson is a very good fighter and I’ve heard about him for years. He’s done a great job of promoting himself and building the sport of boxing in Oregon. Iyada oo yidhi, Mike Bissett has been in the ring with a number of top cruiserweights and proven his toughness. I think both him and Manny will make statements in the upcoming weeks and move onto bigger fights.”

FIGHTING OUT OF KRONK GYM, BANKS SEES SOUTHPAW OPPONENT SALAS AS NOTHING NEW

Given the number of world-class southpaws he’s been in with at the world-famous Kronk Gym in Detroit, undefeated Motown-based cruiserweight Demetrius Banks (6-0, 4 KOs) says he’s not at all concerned about facing Puerto Rican New Yorker Emilio Salas (5-1-1, 3 KOs).
The pair will meet on Saturday, May 14, at the Masonic Temple in Downtown Detroit, in the six-round main event of Salita Promotions’ “Detroit Brawl,” dhacdo. In the six-round co-main event Detroit’s undefeated bantamweight James Gordon Smith (9-0, 6 KOs) and Mexico’s Pablo Cupul (8-19, 5 KOs).
Qiimaha tikidhada “Detroit Brawlare on sale now and are priced at $28, $38, $63, $93, $100 iyo $123. They are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com, adiga oo wacaya 800-745-3000, or by visiting the Masonic Temple box office.
Because my experience, fighting a southpaw is not much of an adjustment,” said Banks during a break in training. “Being at Kronk, I’ve boxed world-class southpaws like (former WBO Middleweight Champion) Andy Lee and (current WBC Light Heavyweight Champion) Adonis Stevenson to name a few. It’s not a big deal for me. I fought so many southpaws, in the beginning of my career, it was more difficult to box a right hander.
Banks, a former football star and a committed mentor to Detroit’s youth, says that despite it being his first main event, he’s not feeling any extra pressure. “The way I look at it, it’s just another day. I don’t let the situation overwhelm me. I guess after the fight is over I’ll exhale and soak it all in. As of right now I’m ready to go to war. It doesn’t bother me what order we fight in.
Of opponent Salas, Banks says he’s not expecting any surprises.
“Anigu ma yeeleen’ need to see much of him to know what I’m getting. I probably watched part of a round and he’s what I would expect. I saw things in him I can exploit. I also know he’s on a five-fight win streak. He’s 6′ 3″ tall, out of the Bronx and he’s a southpaw. I guess he’s coming to win, but I can’t let this guy take food off my plate.
Banks says he’s aware that at age 35, there is no time to waste and he is working hard at Kronk with head coach Javan Hill and assistant trainer Richard Phillips, knowing that this fight is critical if he is to ever rise to contender status.
This fight presents a big opportunity for me, especially with Dmitriy doing so many big things in boxing. If I win this fight, it gives me the opportunity to sign with him. I feel like I need to hurry. Because of my age, I have a smaller window of opportunity and I understand it. This is an opportunity for me to step it up and get things going.
So how does he see things going against Salas?
I definitely see a fight in my mind before it happens. I always visualize them beforehand. I see the things I don’t want to happen, the things that can’t happen and things I want to do. He’s going to come out and try to show he’s tough and come to fight and win. He’s not me though. He’s not fleet-footed or as slick as me. I’ll trick him and touch him to his body. That will give me a lot of target. I will break him down from the body up.
On the Detroit Brawl undercard, Lansing junior middleweight Antonio Urista (7-1, 2 KOs) will face Greenwood, Indiana’s Pablo Sanchez (7-1, 5 KOs) in a four-round bout. Waxaa intaa dheer, Russian cruiserweight Alexey Zubov (10-1, 6 KOs) will look to bounce back from his first career loss by taking on the capable Ernest Reyna (8-3, 4 KOs) cidda qortay Christi, Texas, in a six-rounder. And in four-round welterweight bout between undefeated fighters, Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan’s Serdar Hudayberdiyev (1-0, 1 KO) will face Marco Russell (1-0-1) of Henderson, Nevada.
In a six-round super middleweight scrap, Detroit’s super middleweight James Ballard (6-0, 3 KOs) will face Chicago’s Edgar Perez (6-18, 3 KOs); Detroit middleweight Darrell Van Horn (8-0, 5 KOs) will go against Torreon, Mexico’s Francisco Reza (13-17, 10 KOs) in a four-rounder; East Pointe, Michigan, cruiserweight Clarence Dubose (2-0, 2 KOs) will battle fellow Michigander Karinn Davis (2-6, 2 KOs) of Jackson in a four-round battle; and Brooklyn via Georgia super lightweight Giorgi Gelashvili (3-0, 2 KOs) will face Jackson, Michigan’s Alfred Hall (4-11-2, 2 KOs) in a four-round bout.
On dagaal habeenkii, albaabada furan 6:30 pm and the first fight is at 7:15 pm. The Masonic Temple is located at 500 Temple Street in Detroit. All bouts subject to change.

NEF CAGES THE CAPE ON MAY 14 WITH THRILLING FIGHT CARD

Hyannis, Massachusetts (May 6, 2016) – It will be no day at the beach, but they might just leave some blood on the sand. Dagaaladu New England (NEF) plans to storm Cape Cod on Saturday, May 14, 2016 with the first-ever mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event to be held on the popular tourist destination. The northeast’s top regional fight promotion will pack up its cage in one week and make the 200-mile trek south from NEF’s base of operations in Lewiston, Maine to the Hyannis Youth & Community Center (HYCC).

The attention the event has received has been staggering. “The Cape Cod community has welcomed us with open arms,” ayaa sheegay in NEF co-milkiilaha iyo horumariyaha Nick DiSalvo. “The HYCC is a great venue with an awesome staff. Patti Lloyd at the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce has been a huge help in making this event happen as well. And we have some fantastic new sponsors on the Cape like Bodystrong Fitness who have helped us spread the word.

Illeen, the word has spread and ticket sales have been so strong, and demand so overwhelming, that the promotion had to order more chairs and tickets when cageside inventory sold out last week. “The fans were asking us to add some more cageside seats, so we happily accommodated them,” noted DiSalvo.

And fight fans in attendance will be treated to a night filled with wild cage action. The card is stacked with world class wrestlers and martial artists from Maine, Cape Cod and MassachusettsSouth Shore. Hyannis-based Team Juniko will be prominently featured in no less than six of the evening’s bouts.

BrendanLock DownBattles (0-0) of Juniko is scheduled to make his professional MMA debut in the heavyweight main event, locking horns with Mike “Shaarbo ayaa” Hansen (4-3). Battles was a three-time All American wrestler out of nearby Nauset Regional High School where he won two state championships and three New England championships. Waxa uu ahaa 2-0 as an amateur MMA fighter. Hansen has a wrestling pedigree of his own, having captured a state title for Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Maine. Hansen is a ten-year-plus veteran of the MMA cage.

The co-main event of the evening will feature a rematch fromNEF 15” ee November 2014. “Shatterproof 2.0” Derek Shorey (3-6) will look to avenge a loss to Matt “Ken Doll” Denning (2-2). Shorey’s supporters have claimed for the past year-and-a-half that Denning’s submission victory was a fluke and that Denning would not be able to defeat Shorey a second time should the pair ever meet again. Those claims will be put to the test in Hyannis in this lightweight rematch.

It was a short notice fight that NEF asked for, and I know Derek wanted a rematch,” ayaa sheegay in Denning. “After I beat him again, I’ll prove it wasn’t a fluke. I wanted this fight so I could get some new fans in Massachusetts and show my skills. I have had two losses in a row to great guys and want to get back in the win column.

I thought I could beat him the first time, and he caught me with an armbar,” Shorey admitted. “This time I will leave that cage the victor.

It’s one of those fights we always get asked whether there will be a rematch,” sheegay NEF co-milkiilaha iyo laqabin Matt Peterson. “This will finally prove, once and for all, whether Matt Denning got lucky coming up with that armbar that night. Whatever you do, don’t blink! These two guys are finishers. Whatever the outcome, it’s not going to the judges. Someone’s getting knocked out or submitted in this one.

In another pro fight, longtime NEF mainstay Crowsneck Boutin (1-2) will take on another promotion regular in the form of Ruben Redman (0-0). The bout will be Redman’s professional debut after six amateur fights with NEF in Maine. Boutin is a prolific striker based out of the Choi Institute in Portland. The fight will take place at the middleweight limit of 185-pounds.

The amateur headliner will see Dustin Veinott (4-4) in a flyweight showdown with Ryan “Razzle Dazzle” Kane (4-3). Veinott is the former NEF MMA Amateur Flyweight Champion. He dropped the title in a very close split decision loss to Ryan Burgess (2-0) November ee la soo dhaafay. Kane, from Plymouth, Massachusetts, is a member of Team Juniko and an accomplished competitor in the ancient Greek martial art of Pankration.

A women’s fight will be prominently featured on the amateur card. Angela Young (1-1) ayaa lagu wadaa in ay la kulmaan Kylie O’Hearn (0-0). Young is coming off a big win just two weeks ago against Hannah Sparrell (1-1) at “NEF 22” in Lewiston. O’Hearn, another product of Plymouth, Massachusetts and Team Juniko, will be making her amateur MMA debut. The fight will take place at the bantamweight limit of 135-pounds.

Saaxiibkiis Young Victor Irwin (1-0) will make the five-hour road trip along with her from Bangor, Maine to compete in Hyannis. Irwin will square off with newcomer Tracey Schryba (0-0) in the amateur light-heavyweight division.

Brewster’s Ed Forlenza (0-0) makes his amateur debut against Frank Johanson (0-1) in a 160-pound catchweight bout. Forlenza is a 2004 graduate of Nauset Regional High School where he was a standout on the wrestling team. Johanson’s opponent pulled out of their bout on fight day two weeks ago at “NEF 22.” Not one to let a good fight camp go to waste, Johanson agreed to take the fight with Forlenza in Hyannis.

In another 160-pound catchweight bout, Steve Bang (3-4) qaadanaysaa Fabian Miranda (2-0). Bang is a member of the famous father-sons fighting family of Auburn, Maine. Miranda represents Team Juniko and will look to add to his undefeated record in the fight with Bang.

Rounding out the fight card is a 190-pound catchweight bout featuring Anthony Spires (0-1) iyo Thomas Lee Davis (1-0). Spires, an independent fighter from Maine, hopes to rebound from a loss in his debut last fall at “NEF XX.” Davis is a member of Team Juniko.

For the night’s work, Mayweather collected Canelo’s WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight Championships.

(Mayweather-Maidana 1, May 3, 2014) — Mayweather seized “The Moment” against Marcos Maidana, but it wasn’t easy. For a stirring moment – or two, in fact – it appeared the aggressive-minded Argentine might do the unthinkableand deal Mayweather his first defeat. But the supremely skilled and savvy Mayweather rallied convincingly in the bout’s second half to take a 12-round majority decision.

(Mayweather-Pacquiao, May 2, 2015) – Five-Division world champion Mayweather won a clear 12-round unanimous decision over Eight-Division world champion Manny Pacquiao in a record-shattering “Fight of the Century.” Regarded as one of the most anticipated sporting events of all time, Mayweather-Pacquiao demolished PPV records for buys, revenue, live gate and more. The fight nearly doubled the previous record of 2.48 million buys generated by the Mayweather-Oscar De La Hoya match in 2007 and nearly tripled the record $150 million in U.S. pay-per-view revenue generated by Mayweather-Canelo in 2013. Inside the ring, Floyd had his way throughout, winning by the scores of 118-110 iyo 116-112 laba jeer,

(Todoba. 12, 2015, Mayweather-Berto) – Mayweather went to 49-0, rikoorkii ee horyaalka xilli danbe la saadaalinayaa Rocky Marciano, with a dominant 12-round unanimous decision over Berto. In command throughout, “TBE” landed an impressive 56 boqolkiiba (232/410) in punches thrown and 67 boqolkiiba awood qaad uu (132/196) to triumph by the scores of 120-108, 118-110 iyo 117-111. If this was Mayweather’s last fight, as he’s said, then the maestro manufactured yet one last masterpiece.
