~News From The Promoters Corner~

Coming off a huge event for 559 Fights in September, we prepare for an Oct. 21 return to Fresno’s Tower Theatre.

Sa main event, we have Bantamweight Champion Bryce Gonzales returning from a minor injury to compete against Porterville’s Daniel Campagna.

This bout was scheduled as the main event of the #50 event, but injuries forced us to scrap the bout and move it to a later date.

We have several local showdowns booked for this event, including the return of Devon Chavez and two big flyweight bouts as Strawweight Champ Freddy Mendez moves up in weight to take on up-and-coming talent Paul Elizondo and Carlos Hernandez battles Jose Navarro.

We have three events left for this year.

In November we make our return to Hanford and debut at the Civic Auditorium and then close out the year in Fresno at Tower Theatre.

HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE IS UP FOR GRABS AT NEF 26

Lewiston, Maine (Oktubre 17, 2016) – New England away (Kaha) presents its next mixed-martial-arts event, “Kaha 26: SUPREMACY,” sa Sabado, Nobyembre 19 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. Earlier today, NEF executives announced the addition of an amateur heavyweight title bout to the fight card. Nick Gulliver (3-0) gikatakda sa pag-atubang Yorgan DeCastro (2-2) to fill the vacant NEF MMA Amateur Heavyweight Championship.

Gulliver is a member of John Raio’s First Class MMA based in Brunswick, Maine, as well as the Foundry Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Farmington, Maine. Making his MMA debut in 2015, Gulliver scorched his first two opponents via first-round technical knockout prior to facing Dave Smith (2-1) last spring atNEF 22.It took Gulliver a mere 28-seconds to dispatch Smith. Sa tanan, Gulliver’s first three opponents have lasted barely over a combined two minutes in the cage with him. He will be looking to continue that dominance of the NEF amateur heavyweight division on Nobyembre 19 and claim its top prize.

I would like to thank NEF for the opportunity to fight again,” said Gulliver. “This is the biggest fight of my life. I’m excited to be fighting for the heavyweight title belt on November 19th in front of my family and friends. My goal in this sport was to get a title belt, but something bigger than that was to fight for the belt in front of my father. When I started back in June of last year my coach John Raio told me I would someday fight for the belt. This day has come and now it’s my time to finish what I set out to do.

My father was not able to make my last fight because he was too sick. When I found out about this fight I called my parents and told them I would be fighting for the belt and my dad said he would do everything he could to make it. Busa, not only am I looking for a victory, but I’m looking to do it in front of my father.

This fight is also big since my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coach Brianne Genschel will be fighting alongside me. Brianne has been working so hard for this and she deserves this fight and for her hand to be raised. I’m also excited to have longtime friend and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Shawn Smith in my corner which is also an honor. I truly want to thank The Foundry and First Class MMA for all the support and dedication they have had with me and my training.

I believe this will be a great fight and I’ll have to show people a side of me they have not been able to see yet and I look forward to that. I greatly respect my opponent for taking this fight and wish him the best of luck. To my fans be ready for the Guardian to come out like you have never seen him before. I appreciate this opportunity and I’ll do my best to put a smile on everyone’s face. I would also like to thank my wife Heather for all the help and support she has given me.

A native of Portugal, Yorgan DeCastro came to the United States with a solid kickboxing background. He began competing in mixed-martial-arts in 2014, quickly rattling off a pair of victories on fight cards in Massachusetts. Nobyembre 19 will be DeCastro’s debut on Maine soil, and he plans to return home to South Shore Sportfighting (SSSF) with the heavyweight title belt in tow.

I’m excited for the opportunity to showcase my skills in front of a new crowd,” said DeCastro. “I don’t plan on letting the fight go the distance, but I’m ready for whatever he brings to the table. I’ve faced tougher opposition, so I know I’m prepared.

MAURICE HOOKER VS. DARLEYS PEREZ JOIN KOVALEV-WARD “POUND FOR POUND” TELEVISED UNDERCARD

TITLE FIGHT SET FOR SABADO, NOBYEMBRE 19

AT T-MOBILE ARENA IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

PRESENTED LIVE BY HBO PAY-PER-VIEW®

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (Oktubre 14, 2016) - Rising Dallas, Texas boxing star and NABO Junior Welterweight Champion Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (21-0-2, 16 KOs) will defend his NABA junior welterweight title against Darleys Perez (33-2-1, 21 KOs) in a ten-round bout on the televised undercard of Kovalev-Ward “Pound For Pound” on Sabado, Nov. 19 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be produced and distributed live on HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 sa gabii. UG/6:00 sa gabii. PT.

Sa iyang katapusan nga panagway sa August 6, Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker captivated the crowd at Oracle Arena as the co-feature of Andre Ward vs. Alexander Brand. Hooker wasted no time outperforming Washington D.C.’s Tyrone Barnett, landing a flurry of punches before scoring a technical knockout at the 2:17 mark of the opening round to retain his NABO junior welterweight title. Hooker looks ahead to his next challenge, former WBA World Lightweight Champion Darleys Perez. Perez is coming off a Mayo 20 knockout victory over fellow Colombian Ubadel Soto, an impressive bounce back following a tough title defense loss to Anthony Crolla, the previous year. The veteran fighter, who resides and trains full-time in the U.S., will step up a weight class to meet Hooker.

“I want to thank my team at Maple Avenue Boxing Gym, Roc Nation Sports and HBO for giving me the opportunity to show the world a ‘Mighty Mo’ performance on the undercard of the ‘Fight of the Year’,” said Hooker. “For my part, I promise to put on a show for the fans in Las Vegas and the Pay-Per-View audience at home. No one punches like me. It’s going to be lights out.”

Hooker added, “I will be dedicating this fight to Aaron Pyror, who passed away, earlier this week. I can’t think of a better way to honor ‘The Hawk’s’ legacy than with a big win. I look to be a world-class junior welterweight champion like him.”

“This is my chance get back into the limelight. I have fought all over the world and facing Maurice Hooker in Las Vegas on Nobyembre 19 is perhaps my last chance to show that I have a lot left inside the ring and I plan to take full advantage of it because losing is not an option,” said Perez. “I will move up to the 140-pound division and I will be ready to challenge this young lion who has never fought a guy like me before. There will be fireworks in Las Vegas and I plan to go home a winner.”

“Not only is Kovalev-Ward the most anticipated fight in recent boxing history, with the addition of Hooker-Perez to the televised undercard – Nov. 19 is an evening that international sports fans simply cannot afford to miss,” said Roc Nation President & Chief of Branding and Strategy Michael R. Yormark. “From our very first day in boxing, Roc Nation Sports has committed to making great fights and creating scintillating global events, and we are thrilled to work with Main Events to add this incredible matchup to the undercard, as ‘Mighty MoHooker puts his undefeated record on the line against the very talented Colombian Darleys Perez.”

HBO is the pinnacle of pugilistic entertainment. We are very proud to have Maurice Hooker make both his Las Vegas and HBO Pay-Per-View debut on Nobyembre 19,” said Arnie Verbeek, Hooker’s manager. “We have worked extremely hard to get to this point in his career and are thankful to Roc Nation Sports for believing in Maurice Hooker’s talent.”

Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (21-0-2, 16 KOs) was born and raised in Oak Cliff, Texas, where he found a boxing home at Maple Avenue Boxing Gym by way of an outreach program for at-risk youths. His natural talent was soon noticed resulting in him competing as an amateur, during which time he participated in over 100 away, compiling a record of 97 wins and only seven losses, uban sa 67 victories coming by way of knockout. Hooker turned professional on April 29, 2011, taking on the vastly more experienced Tyrone Chatman at the Orpheum Theater in St. Louis. After four rounds, the judges saw the fight 40-36, 37-39 ug 38-38, calling the fight a split draw. Undeterred, in his next fight on June 24, 2014, Hooker scored his first professional win, knocking out Wilbert Mitchell in the first round. Eleven wins (eight by knockout) later, he took on undefeated Abel Ramos on January 17, 2014 in a bout that was featured on ShoBox from the Cook Convention Center in Memphis. After eight close, hard-fought rounds, the judges saw the fight a draw. Four consecutive knockout victories would follow before he took on fellow undefeated prospect Eduardo Galindo on June 26, 2015 at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas for the vacant NABO junior welterweight title. “Mighty Mo” did not disappoint his legion of hometown fans who saw him capture the title with a sixth round technical knockout victory. Sa Oktubre 17, 2015, Hooker successfully defended his title at Madison Square Garden in New York City against his toughest opponent to date in Ghislain Maduma. The 10-round decision win came on the undercard of Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux and was featured on the event’s “freeview” as well as streamed online around the world. “Mighty Mo” made his debut under the Roc Nation Sports banner on the undercard of Andre Ward vs. Sullivan Barrera, this past March at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, where he annihilated opponent Wilfrido “La Roca” Buelvas of Columbia in the first round of a 10-round junior welterweight bout by way of technical knockout. Hooker returned to Oracle Arena on August 6 as the co-feature on the Ward-Brand undercard, defeating Tyrone Barnett of Washington, D.C., to remain the NABO Junior Welterweight Champion. Darleys Perez (33-2-1, 21 KOs) is a celebrated Colombian boxer hailing from San Pedro de Uraba. Sama sa usa ka amateur, uban sa usa ka talaan sa 82 daog ug 7 pagkawala, he captured the lightweight boxing gold medal at the 2006 South American games in Buenos Aries, Argentina, and was a contender at the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, China. Perez made his professional debut on February 14, 2009, by way of knockout over fellow countryman Edwin Ortiz. 27 consecutive victories followed, earning Perez a shot at the interim WBA World lightweight title against undefeated Yuriorkis Gamboa at the Bell Center in Montreal, Canada on June 8, 2013. In a closely-fought contest that went the distance, Gamboa prevailed, handing Perez his first career loss. A year later, Perez received a second chance at the interim WBA World lightweight title, successfully scoring a unanimous decision over Argenis Lopez at the Sheraton Hotel in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Perez was promoted to full titleholder status when the WBA stripped Richar Abril of the belt for twice failing to make title defenses. In the first of back-to-back defenses of the WBA World lightweight title on July 18, 2015, Perez topped hometown challenger Anthony Crolla with a majority decision draw at the Manchester Arena in the United Kingdom. In the rematch on November 21, 2015, again at Manchester Arena, Perez was taken down for the count in the fifth round by a single body shot. Undeterred by his second loss, Perez returned to the ring on May 20, 2016, scoring with a big second-round knockout over Ubadel Soto. Perez looks to continue his upward streak as he moves up a weight class to take on Maurice Hooker for the NABO junior welterweight title on Nobyembre 19 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Ania ang giingon sa mga partisipante sa pag-ingon Huwebes:
Danny Garcia
Being able to partner with Philabundance is a tremendous thing. Sa katapusan sa adlaw, that’s what it’s all about. When you’re fortunate, your job is to give back and change someone else’s life. I’m looking forward to a great night and a great turnout.
Everyone has gone through hard times. Everyone has gone through times where they need extra help. We’re going to make a big difference that night and it’ll be for a lot of people that really need it.
I want to thank the City of Philadelphia. I’m just excited to fight at home. This card is going to allow a lot of great local fighters to be on a big stage.
I can’t look past Samuel Vargas and I know his trainer has a couple tricks up his sleeve. I know they’re going to come to fight, but I will never underestimate anyone. I’ve learned my lessons to become the champion I am today.
I know Vargas knows how to win. He’s won a lot in his career. I’m going to go out there and just fight. If it goes the distance, then it does. I can’t underestimate him. I’m going to put on a great show and dominate.
People are acting like Keith Thurman has a cape like Superman and can fly. I want the other champions to think I’m vulnerable. Those are my easiest fights. I have to get past this fight to get to the next one.
I feel like I owe this to my fans to fight in Philadelphia. The last time I fought at this venue was on a Bernard Hopkins undercard and I got a big knockout. I plan on doing the same Nobyembre 12.
I have a good team around me. There should be no distractions leading up to this fight. All the people who deserve to get tickets will be there and there won’t be anything distracting me. Ako 100 percent focused on this matchup.
I’m at the point in my career where I’m working smarter and harder. Ang ingon nga Ingon Nobyembre 12 we want to give the city of Philadelphia a night to remember. I can’t overlook this fight, but I guarantee that I’m going to unify titles at 147 pounds soon.
SAMUEL VARGAS
I’m very blessed to be here today. This fight could change my whole life. The lives of my family. Danny is a great fighter and I have to give it my all.
I have to take advantage of this. I have the best trainer in the world with me and we’re going to take care of business Nobyembre 12.
Me and my trainer work on a lot of different styles. We like to switch it up and keep the opponents guessing. Sometimes we pressure and sometimes we stay outside. I’m learning every day and making adjustments.
I’m an underdog and I have been my whole life. There are very few options for a Latin immigrant all the way up in Canada. I beat the odds to make it up there and have a life and a family.
I’m a guy with just over 10 amateur fights and I’ve made it this far. Danny Garcia is my chance. I have to make the best of it and give it my all. This is everything for me.
JARRETT HURD
I’ve been to Philadelphia a couple times and the city has welcomed me. I just want to put on another show. This will get me one step closer to my dream of fighting for a title.
We’ve looked at some of my opponent’s fights and he’s a veteran. He’s got a lot of power and a good knockout rate to go with it. He’s awkward and tall. If you don’t come in on top of your game, he can make you look bad. We’re looking to do what we always do.
I learned a lot from my last fight. It opened a lot of doors for me, like fighting on the Danny Garcia undercard. I feel like I’m what the division is missing. I’m a tall, lanky fighter with a lot of power and good hand speed.
My time is here. I feel like this is my opportunity to get closer to fighting for a world title. I can’t wait to become a world champion.
I want to face all of the 154-pounders. We’re not ducking anyone. There are so many talented fighters in the division, but I believe that me and my team train so hard and prepare so well that we’re ready to face any of them. The time will come and we’re just waiting.
This is a tremendous opportunity to be on the Danny Garcia undercard because we’re all trying to get to where he’s at. Make sure you’re watching my fights because I promise I’m going to do something memorable.
Omar Douglas
I just wanted to say this is the opportunity of a lifetime to fight in Philadelphia where my career started. I won Pennsylvania Golden Gloves several times.
To be in with a former world champion is a terrific thing. I’m going to take full advantage of this opportunity. I’ve been waiting for this a long time and this is my time.
Fortuna is a very confident fighter. He likes to give it all the first few rounds. I’m going to come in and use my jab and invest in the body. I think we can have an early night.
I believe I have the best jab in the business. I have to keep him off me with the jab and head movement. I’ve been fighting for a long time and there’s nothing I haven’t seen.
I think I’ve improved a lot. Fighting guys with one loss and world ranked guys over my last couple fights has helped me. My confidence is definitely rising every day.
You can look forward to a crowd pleasing performance and knockout.
ANGHEL Garcia, Ni Danny Amahan & Trainer
Danny has been the underdog before. Lucas Matthysse or Amir Khan, you name it. We don’t underestimate Vargas. We don’t take him lightly. We are going to come ready to rumble.
Vargas is the underdog today, but Danny has been the underdog his entire life.Nobyembre 12 my son will still be undefeated.
I came to Philadelphia at six years old. I had no food. Only you know you’re pain. I ate a lot of food from a can growing up, so if you guys donate anything or buy a ticket that donates money, you’ll be doing something great. We pray every day for the hungry kids, not just in America but the whole world.
BILLY BRISCOE, Vargas’ Trainer
This is a great opportunity for me and Samuel. In my opinion he’s an underrated fighter. He’s been under the radar for a while. We’ve been working together in Canada and starting a farm system.
We’re fighting in my opinion the best welterweight in the world. This is no easy task and we’re not fooling ourselves. We won’t leave any stone unturned.
We’ll find a way and we’ll make a way. That’s what we’re going to do and I look forward to this.
MARSHALL KAUFFMAN, Promotions Hari
It’s very exciting to be promoting this young man, Danny Garcia. I remember him as a young kid and it’s exciting to see where he’s come in the world of boxing. I’ve known a lot of these guys for a long time and I’m excited to see how they perform.
This card is going to be stacked with local talent and I hope that everyone comes out and supports these fighters and this great cause.
I’ve always wanted to bring Danny Garcia to Philadelphia and the commission is thrilled to bring him back to this great city and we’re going to make it worthwhile.
